Actions taken

Since 2011, public organizations in Scotland have been required by law to help meet their emissions targets, support the country’s efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, and act sustainably.

In order to reduce carbon emissions, the Argyll and Bute Integrated Joint Board (IJB) has taken a lead in progressing several projects, including:

  • Electrification of the Argyll and Bute IJB fleet;
  • supporting the expansion of staff remote and home working, as well as the utilization of ‘Near Me’ video appointments for patients and clients where clinically appropriate;
  • To install a biomass generator at the Campbeltown Community Hospital, a business case has been prepared;
  • exploring the viability of direct energy generation in Lochgilphead in collaboration with partners;
  • directing an inventive effort to test the use of drones in remote and island locations

The drone beta service uses for clinical logistics, focusing on blood specimen transportation, which can cuts carbon emissions by reducing the need for multiple forms of transportation, including car, ferry, and air.
